The Ministry of Communications, Department of Posts is inviting applications for the post of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) for the Special Cycle in May 2023. The GDS program is a unique opportunity for individuals to work in their local communities and provide essential postal services to rural areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering mail and parcels
  • Managing branch post offices
  • Providing other postal services to customers
  • Maintaining records and handling cash transactions
  • Performing other administrative tasks as needed

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age Limit: 18-40 years (relaxation as per government rules)
  • Educational Qualification: 10th pass from a recognized board
  • Computer Knowledge: Basic computer training certificate of at least 60 days duration from a recognized Computer Training Institute
  • Residence: The candidate should be a resident of the concerned Gram Panchayat/Village/Delivery Post Office within one month of selection
  • Language Knowledge: Knowledge of the local language is mandatory

In addition to the above requirements, candidates must also possess adequate means of livelihood and have access to a bicycle or scooter for transportation purposes.

Selected candidates will receive emoluments in the form of Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) plus Dearness Allowance thereon. The applicable TRCA slab varies depending on the category of GDS:

  • BPM – Rs.12,000/- to Rs.14,500/-
  • ABPM/Dak Sevak – Rs.10,000/- to Rs.12,000/-

Please note that GDS are holders of civil posts but are outside the regular Civil Services of Union of India and governed by GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020 issued vide OM. No. ’17-30/2019-GDS dated 14.02.2020 as revised from time to time available on the website www.indiapost.gov.in
