The method of appointment is direct recruitment, district-wise (70% direct recruitment and 30% transfer recruitment quota). Candidates can apply for only one district, and a separate ranked list is published for each district. Women and differently abled candidates are not eligible for this post.

The driving licence must stay valid through every stage, including the application deadline, OMR test, physical efficiency test, swimming test and practical test. Experience must be gained after acquiring the basic qualification, and the certificate must be in the prescribed format, countersigned by an authorised State or Central Government officer, and fit on a single page.

Age Limit and Physical Standards

• Age: 25 to 40 years. Candidates should be born between 02.01.1986 and 01.01.2001 (both dates included).
• Relaxation: OBC and SC/ST candidates get relaxation as per Part II, para 2(i) of the General Conditions, but the maximum age never goes beyond 50 years.
• Height: minimum 168 cm (160 cm for SC/ST).
• Chest: minimum 81 cm with at least 5 cm expansion (no relaxation for SC/ST).
• Swimming: swim 50 m within two minutes and float for two minutes in the deeper section of a pool.
• Physical Efficiency Test: qualify in any 5 of 8 events (100 m run in 14 seconds, high jump 132.2 cm, long jump 457.2 cm, shot put 609.6 cm, cricket ball throw 6096 cm, rope climbing 365.8 cm, pull-ups 8 times, 1500 m run in 5 min 44 sec).
• Medical: perfect hearing, uncorrected vision 6/6 (distant) and 0.5 (near) in each eye, normal colour vision. Part A certificate from a Government ophthalmologist and Part B from a Government Medical Officer are required.

How Candidates Are Selected

The notification mentions a written, OMR or online test (if held), physical measurement, a physical efficiency test, a swimming test and a practical test conducted by KPSC.
