Educational Qualification

Assistant Legislative Counsel (Grade IV of Indian Legal Service)	Degree in Law of a recognized University or equivalent.	Must also meet one of these: member of a State Judicial Service for not less than seven years; or held a superior post in the legal department of a State for not less than seven years; or a Central Government servant with experience in legal affairs for not less than seven years; or a Master’s Degree in Law with teaching or research experience in Law for not less than five years; or a qualified legal practitioner of not less than 30 years of age. Desirable: Preference to persons with experience in legislative drafting.
Law Officer	Degree in Law from a recognized Institute/University.	Two years’ experience in legal work as a Legal Practitioner; or two years’ experience in legal work in a Govt. Office.
Specialist Grade II (Junior Scale) – Cardiology	(i) A recognized medical qualification included in the First or Second Schedule or Part II of the Third Schedule (other than licentiate qualification) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (holders of Part II of Third Schedule qualifications must also fulfil Section 13(3) of the Act); and (ii) Post Graduate Degree in the concerned speciality, i.e. D.M. (Cardiology).	Three years’ experience in the concerned speciality after obtaining the post graduate degree.

Note: Qualifications are relaxable at the discretion of UPSC, for reasons to be recorded in writing, in the case of candidates otherwise well qualified. For Assistant Legislative Counsel, the experience qualification is also relaxable at UPSC’s discretion for SC candidates as per the conditions given in the notification.

Selection Process

1. Shortlisting of candidates on the basis of information given in the online application. If applications are large in number, UPSC may use shortlisting criteria such as desirable qualifications, higher qualifications or higher experience.
2. Recruitment Test (RT), if held by the Commission.
3. Interview – minimum level of suitability: UR-50, OBC-45, SC/ST/PH-40 marks out of 100.

Where selection is by Recruitment Test followed by Interview, candidates must achieve the minimum level of suitability in both stages.

3. Create your account and complete the Universal Registration to get your Universal Registration Number (URN). Aadhaar Card is strongly advised as the ID document.
4. Fill the Common Application Form (CAF). Upload your photograph, capture a live photograph, and upload your signature (signed three times one below the other in black ink on plain white paper).
5. Fill the post/vacancy specific module for the post you are applying for.
6. Upload supporting documents in PDF for all claims – date of birth (10th certificate/marksheet), educational qualifications, experience certificates (preferably in the prescribed format), category/caste certificate, OBC non-creamy layer declaration, disability certificate, age relaxation certificates, etc. Do not upload pay slips, resume, appointment letters or relieving letters.
7. Pay the application fee of Rs. 25/- online (if applicable).
8. Submit the application before 1800 hrs on 16-10-2026 and take a printout of the finally submitted application. Keep your URN and Application Number safe.
